Your guide to pairing cheese and wine
With the introduction of our online wine shop, we’ve made it even easier for you to select the perfect wines to pair with your favourite Snowdonia cheeses. Whether you’re planning a full wine and cheese tasting party or simply kicking back and savouring a wedge and a glass, here’s our guide to choosing delicious pairings.
The rich creaminess of our signature extra mature Cheddar are best paired with robust red wines, such as this bold Chianti. This earthy and full-bodied red wine from the famous appellation in Tuscany has notes of spice and red berries that balance beautifully with Black Bomber’s demandingly moreish savoury flavours.
One of our most luxurious Cheddars, Rock Star is matured within Welsh slate caverns in the heart of Snowdonia for a deliciously savoury aroma, creamy texture and deep umami flavours. This elegant Champagne is equally complex with its notes of brioche, vanilla and candied plum and long, clean finish – a dream match on the palate.
This pale rosé from south-facing vineyards on the Provençal coast has a rich nose followed by notes of pastry, thyme and dark berry fruits, making it an elegant cheeseboard partner for our vintage Red Leicester’s intense, nutty flavours and refined texture.
Truffle Trove, combining Italian Black Summer truffles with extra mature Cheddar, has a distinctly earthy aroma and flavours of wild mushroom, hazelnut and garlic. Avoid masking these with too bold a wine: celebrate them instead with this lively Chardonnay, with its bouquet of wildflowers on the nose, creamy texture and bright acidity.
With intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits, this smooth but complex Chilean red’s silky tannins make it a sensational match for the sweet, smoky notes and mellow depth of our mature, naturally smoked Cheddar.
